Coastal Jazz & Blues Society is bringing Grammy Award-winning American trumpeter and composer Chris Botti to the stage at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, along with special guest pianist Michael Kaeshammer, on June 28 at 7:30 pm.

The performance, which is being held at this year’s Vancouver International Jazz Festival, is part of the event’s Marquee Series.

Since the release of his 2004 critically acclaimed album When I Fall In Love, Botti has reached the number one spot four times on Billboard’s Jazz Albums chart. He has multiple RIAA-certified Gold and Platinum records under his belt, and his latest album Impressions won the Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album.

Through a string of stellar solo productions, plus work with an impressive list of pop and jazz artists—including Sting, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Yo-Yo Ma, Michael Bublé, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock, Andrea Bocelli, and even Frank Sinatra—Botti has thoroughly established himself as a clarion voice in contemporary music.

Whether he’s calling upon firepower or finesse, Botti’s success on the trumpet has crossed over to audiences usually reserved for pop music. Performing worldwide with over four million albums sold, he plays with creative expression that begins in jazz and expands beyond the limits of any single genre—a force that will compliment Kaeshammer spectacularly in the pair’s upcoming show.

Kaeshammer isn’t so much a piano player as a piano whisperer, able to coax dazzling, kaleidoscopic sounds from the instrument in a way few can rival. The German-born, B.C.-based artist released his debut album Blue Keys back in 1996, at just 21 years old.

Countless collaborations, solo records, Juno nominations and Western Canadian Music Awards later, he unveiled his eclectic and energetic 15th studio album Turn It Up in March 2023. The post-lockdown record features Kaeshammer’s uplifting storytelling and pop-driven crossover of classical, jazz, blues, and boogie-woogie, beckoning listeners out of isolation and into shared joy.

Kaeshammer’s performance is presented with additional support from Vancouver radio station WAVE 98.3.

Tickets to see Botti and Kaeshammer, along with more information on the Vancouver International Jazz Festival taking place from June 23 to July 2, can be found at Coastal Jazz & Blues Society.
