CTORA Theatre (formerly known as Children’s Theatre of Richmond) brings The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical to life, an electrifying stage adaptation of the best-selling novel by Rick Riordan, running from May 18 to 28 at the Norman & Annette Rothstein Theatre.

Evening shows take place from Thursdays through Sundays at 7 pm, and matinees are performed Saturdays through Mondays at 2 pm.

The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical follows the story of Percy Jackson, played by Brett Williams—a half-blood son of a Greek god, who discovers that he has extraordinary powers he cannot control. As if that wasn’t enough, Zeus’s master lightning bolt is stolen, and Percy becomes the prime suspect.

The young demigod has to find and return the bolt to prove his innocence and prevent a war between the gods. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the thief. Flanked by his friends Annabeth Chase (Jessica Spenst) and Grover Underwood (Teddy Ngkaion), he must travel to the Underworld and back; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and come to terms with the father who abandoned him.

The two-act full-stage musical led by director Mark Carter and musical director Jeremy Hoffman features a five-piece live orchestra pumping out rock and roll anthems. Touches like Ancient Greek and modern-day scene changes, lightning and sound effects, and giant puppets truly bring the world of Percy Jackson to life on stage.

The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals, from a book by Joe Tracz, and music and lyrics by Rob Rokicki. This mythical production features a cast of nine actors playing the beloved characters of the original story, including Simon Auclair-Troughton as Luke Castellan, Emily Saint as Clarisse La Rue, Claire Torrance as Silena Beauregard, and Ryan Horton as Gabe Ugliano.

Founded by executive producer Lily Yuan, CTORA Theatre is a non-profit organization that provides opportunities for emerging artists to perform in professionally staged productions.

Tickets to see The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical are available at CTORA Theatre.
