Early Music Vancouver brings The Birds Concert to the Christ Church Cathedral on April 21 at 7:30 pm, performed by riveting French ensemble La Rêveuse.

Composed of four solo musicians—gambist Florence Bolton, theorbist Benjamin Perrot, harpsichordist Jean-Miguel Aristizabal, and recorder player Sébastien Marq—La Rêveuse draws upon the heritage of the 17th and 18th centuries, a period rich in artistic experiments and inventions.

Birdsong differs greatly from the sound of instruments, but no other animal has given such inspiration to musicians and composers across the ages.

Through fascination for birdsong and direction from Bolton and Perrot, The Birds Concert brings to life a vision of music from the 17th and 18th centuries focusing on science, nature, and culture. The programme is illustrated with arrangements for early instruments from the 20th century by François Couperin, Jean-Philippe Rameau, Michel Corrette, and more.

Tickets for the concert are available at Early Music Vancouver.
