The Firehall Arts Centre is pleased to present the Vancouver premiere of Our Ghosts from March 19 to April 2. Post-show talkbacks will be happening on March 23 and 30.

Written by Sally Stubbs and produced by Our Ghosts Collective in association with Western Gold Theatre, Our Ghosts is a haunting mystery inspired by the disappearance of Gerald Stubbs, the playwright’s father. The production will explore the nuances of official and personal responses to the disappearance of a plane and its pilots.

At the heart of the play is a love story, and the mystery that defines the lives of a woman and her children: flight officer Stubbs’s disappearance in a Canadian Armed Forces fighter jet, after taking off from an air base in Comox in 1956.

The play is directed by Sarah Rodgers with associate director Raugi Yu, who will also be performing alongside Corina Akeson, Sebastien Archibald, Lucy McNulty, and Barbara Pollard.

“It is great to welcome Sally Stubbs back to the Firehall with our presentation of her script, Our Ghosts,” says Donna Spencer, artistic producer of the Firehall Arts Centre. “Sally has put together a wonderful team of collaborators to bring this autobiographical story to the stage, sharing the impact of her family’s loss and the reverberations from that loss on others, including Search and Rescue workers as well as Air Force colleagues.”

The piece’s lighting design is by John Webber, with set design by Jessica Oostergo and adventurous costumes by Sheila White.
