Friends of Chamber Music welcome back the Zemlinsky Quartet to open their 76th season on October 17 at 7:30 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse.

The Zemlinsky Quartet performed a joint Friends of Chamber Music concert in 2019 with the Pražák Quartet, where audiences had the exceptional opportunity to hear chamber music written for octet and sextet. Performing in their usual string quartet form in this concert, the much-lauded Czech ensemble will delight listeners with their energized burnished tone in three string quartets.

The concert opens with Germaine Tailleferre’s String Quartet. Tailleferre, the sole female member of Les Six, wrote her quartet as a free-form sonatina. This is followed by String Quartet No. 1, Opus 4 by Alexander von Zemlinsky (the ensemble’s namesake). The performance concludes with Beethoven’s ever-popular String Quartet No. 9 in C Major, Opus 59, No. 3 “Razumovsky”.
