Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Jon Kimura Parker Plays Bernstein

Joining the legendary Canadian pianist is Grammy-winning conductor Karen Kamensek in her VSO debut

 
 

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is delighted to present Jon Kimura Parker Plays Bernstein.

Jon Kimura Parker is a legendary pianist, an Officer of The Order of Canada who has received Honourary Doctorates from the University of British Columbia and the Royal Conservatory of Music. A veteran of the international concert stage, Parker is the creative partner of the Minnesota Orchestra, artistic director of the Honens International Piano Competition, and artistic advisor for the Orcas Island Chamber Music Festival.

In concert with the VSO, Parker will perform Bernstein’s Symphony No. 2,  "Age of Anxiety".

Joining Parker is Grammy-winning conductor Karen Kamensek. In her VSO debut, Kamensek will lead the orchestra in Kodály’s thrilling Dances of Galánta and in the world premiere of Vancouver composer Vivian Fung’s Flute Concerto performed by VSO Principal Flute, Christie Reside.

Jon Kimura Parker Plays Bernstein, which is part of the Newmont Masterworks Gold Series, takes place November 11 and 12 at 8 pm at the Orpheum Theatre.

Parker also appears in the intimate atmosphere of Pyatt Hall for a piano masterclass (open to the public for live attendance or livestream access), where he will coach advanced young performers with his signature warm and engaging style.
