Musician Kaitie Sly presents Traversing the Mind + Syreim at the Lobe Spatial Sound Studio, December 9

Experience an interactive soundscape in 4DSOUND, then hear original music from her experimental rock project

Singer, songwriter, composer and bassist Kaitie Sly presents her interactive soundscape composition Traversing the Mind, along with a set of original music from her experimental rock project Syreim!—all at the Lobe Spatial Sound Studio (713 Hastings Street) on December 9 from 7 to 9 pm.

The first hour’s Traversing the Mind plays out in immersive 4DSOUND and was created specifically with Lobe’s technology. Sly aims to bring elements and instrumentation of sound healing and meditation into the piece, which draws on singing bowls and gongs by sound healer Bonnie Starcevich and Mongolian/Tuvan throat singing by Matthew Kocel.

To experience the piece, one lucky audience member puts on an EEG headset that analyzes the listener's brainwave activity for the amount of alpha (relaxation), and beta (concentration), gamma (peak focus), theta (meditation), and delta (sleep) frequency ranges, and maps them to different elements of the soundscape. The result is a literal and figurative journey through the mind.

Syreim, meanwhile, draws from a self-produced debut EP, with Sly on vocals and bass guitar, with Johannes Grames on guitar, Seb Chamney on acoustic guitar, Chris Couto on drums, and Tissa Rahim on backing vocals. Syreim, which stands for Symbolic. Real. Imaginary. is an experimental rock project and is a provoking amalgamation of the wide range of influences. Kaitie’s captivating lyrics touch on psychology, identity, and other intriguing subject matter. With everything from grunge to jazz to modern classical, Syreim’s music will be sure to bend your ears. “Part rock, part jazz, part anything that can be fused together musically, Kaitie Sly brings a delectably eclectic, electric elegance to the music.” – Subsocial Studios, Vancouver, BC.

Seating is very limited and intimate with a capacity for 25 audience members only. Find tickets and more information here.
