SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs, in partnership with Vancouver Moving Theatre and Full Circle: First Nations Performance is excited to announce the holiday classic Bah Humbug! is returning to Vancouver.

Featuring a video recording of a 2019 live performance plus pre-recorded bonuses from the cast, Bah Humbug! will stream via Vimeo from December 15 to 30.

This beautiful, hyperlocal retelling of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is set within Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. Scrooge preys upon his desperate clientele as a heartless pawnshop operator and hotel landlord who displaces people through renovictions—until one dark Christmas Eve, he is challenged by three spirits.

Juno-award winner Jim Byrnes leads the performance, which features Tom Pickett; Kevin McNulty; Savannah Walling; Margo Kane of Full Circle: First Nations Performance and Talking Stick Festival; and local Indigenous actor Sam Bob, a recent COVID-19 survivor.

Members of St. James Music Academy Youth Choir add their rich voices to this unique adaptation. The production also boasts an appearance by Stephen Lytton, Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award recipient; while renowned muralist Richard Tetrault's iconic images of back alleys, ravens, and Vancouver's portside provide a compelling backdrop. Musical director Bill Costin melds blues, gospel, and industrial rock with seasonal favourites.

Tickets are available via CanadaHelps at $10 per person or $25 per household (or more where possible). All proceeds support the actors and musicians directly, as well as Vancouver Moving Theatre’s Downtown Eastside Heart of the City Festival.

Ticket-holders are eligible to win one of two turkeys, provided by Rio Friendly Meats; those who donate more than $50 will be entered to win an original print by Richard Tetrault.
