The Winter Solstice seems as though it will take on greater significance this December than in years past: everyone is looking forward to brighter days ahead.

Music on Main is continuing with its annual tradition of revelling in luminous music to drive away the darkness and welcome the light when it presents Music for the Winter Solstice on YouTube Premieres.

Taking place December 16 at 7:30 pm, the concert-length event features cherished moments and never-seen-before footage from past live performances at Vancouver’s Heritage Hall, as well as a new performance captured on film at the Post on 750 by vocalists Corey Payette and Julie McIsaac with pianist Rachel Iwaasa.

Since launching in 2014, Music for the Winter Solstice has become a tradition that is anything but traditional.  Hosted by Music on Main’s artistic director David Pay, this year’s pandemic-proof video edition of Music for the Winter Solstice also includes artists Caroline Shaw, Veda Hille, Gabriel Kahane, and others performing music to revel in during long, dark nights.

A live talk-back with the artists follows the musical experience of #listeningtogether. Generously sponsored by Eileen Mate, Music for the Winter Solstice will be available on Music on Main’s YouTube channel until January 6, 2021. The streaming concert is free (donations appreciated),

Now in its 15th Season under founder and artistic director David Pay, Music on Main has presented more than 500 concerts and events, featuring more than 1,000 musicians and 100 world premieres.
