What do you get when four women musicians at the top of their game in their respective genres join forces to play tango, klezmer, and jazz?

An unforgettable virtual concert of the Stellar Jays.

Saxophonist Julia Nolan, violinist Joan Blackman, and pianist Jane Hayes have already performed and recorded classical and new music together numerous times. The addition of Jodi Proznick, a Juno-award winning jazz bassist, invites a whole new world of improvisation, reimagining of the old, and collaboration between genres.

From Maurice Ravel’s Blues to George Gershwin to a commission by Vancouver’s own Fred Stride to a suite arranged by Proznick taken from her award-winning album Sun Songs, the Stellar Jays explore the varied worlds of jazz, tango (think piazzolla), and klezmer.

Their premiere performance will be recorded live at the Chan Centre for the Arts and the video will be released March 11 as part of Vetta Chamber Music’s online concert series.

The virtual concert will be available for viewing anytime between 2 pm PST March 11 until midnight PST March 14. For more information, visit Vetta Chamber Music.
