Vancouver New Music is getting ready to welcome back Talea Ensemble on April 23 at the Annex, a concert that boasts two world premieres by local talents.

VNM has specially commissioned works by two young BC composers: Grey Waters (2022) by Victoria-based Brandon Chow and eidos; qualia (2022) by Vancouver-based William Kuo.

The acclaimed New York-based new-music ensemble will also play Inexpressible v. 2 (2015) by Amadeus Regucera; Raven Chacon’s Round (2007), for turntable and several players with wooden kebab skewers; and Olga Neuwirth’s coronAtion II: Naufraghi del mondo che hanno ancora un cuore (2020), for a foursome of instruments (flute, clarinet, violin, and viola).

Known for energetic performances and a commitment to nurturing the new-music community, the Talea Ensemble had its local debut with VNM in 2017. The group’s mission is to champion musical creativity, cultivate curious listeners, and bring visionary new works to life with vibrant performances.
