Turning Point Ensemble launches 1+1+1… a film series beginning January 31. A cross-sector collaboration between individual composers, filmmakers, dancers, visual artists and more, the project is a series of 16 five-minute films, each consisting of a new work created for a solo member of the ensemble by a composer of their choice, with additional artistic contributions from a variety of performers.

The first three films were released last year, and are available on the Turning Point website. The remaining 13 films will be available for $24.99. New content will be released every few weeks.

Although 1+1+1… a film series began as a pandemic initiative, conceived to showcase the virtuoso musicians of the ensemble at a time when live concerts and rehearsals were prohibited, the project resulted in completely realized and satisfying work, despite, or perhaps because of, the external limitations. The opportunity to add visual elements and collaboration with filmmakers, visual effects designers, and other performing artists has inspired something new and beautiful in its own right.

Composers invited to write new works include a who’s who of Canadian new music, including Bob Pritchard, Owen Underhill, Jeffrey Ryan, John Oliver, Michael Oesterle, Dorothy Chang, Ana Sokolovic, Farangis Nurulla-Khoja, and Marcus Goddard. To this distinguished list, add choral conductor/composer Rejean Marois, fire-dancer/composer Mariah Mennie, Afro-Indian percussionist/composer Curtis Andrews, Flamenco guitarist/composer Josue Tacoronte, and cellist/composer Peggy Lee, among others.

Fine more information here.
