The Vancouver Bach Choir is joined by members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to present Bach’s St John Passion at the Orpheum on March 30 at 7:30 pm.

This monumental work was first performed on Good Friday, April 7, 1724. Audiences now get the chance to hear a stellar lineup of musicians perform Bach’s oratorio this Easter weekend, 300 years after its first performance.

Helmed by conductor Leslie Dala, the evening features soprano Magali Simard-Galdès, mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó, tenor Asitha Tennekoon, and bass Neil Craighead.

St John Passion is filled with moments of drama, solemnity, and reflection. Despite his status today as a classical music icon, Bach himself performed primarily as a church musician during his lifetime in what is now present-day Germany. The majority of his works, though well-respected, did not gain widespread popularity until after his death.

Tickets to the concert are available via the Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs.
