Vancouver Chamber Choir hosts annual youth event Horizons on January 27

Performance features company’s post-secondary choir Focus, a guest youth choir, and winning works from 2023 Young Composers’ Competition

The Vancouver Chamber Choir presents Horizons, its annual youth event, on January 27 from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Pacific Spirit United Church. A pre-concert talk with artistic director Kari Turunen takes place at 7 pm.

Horizons stars Focus, the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s post-secondary student choir, which is a yearly choral singing intensive for emerging professionals in Metro Vancouver. The concert also features a guest youth choir from Lord Byng Secondary School conducted by its director of choral activities Lisa Lan.

The Vancouver Chamber Choir will be performing the winning contributions of the company’s 2023 Young Composers’ Competition, which is judged in three age categories: elementary (ages 8 to 12), secondary (ages 13 to 17), and college/university (ages 18 to 22). Plus, the choir will be presenting the premiere of Tamsin Jones’s Time is, Frank Martin’s marvelous Songs of Ariel, and more with the Focus choir.
