Vancouver Chamber Choir launches its 53rd season on September 22 with the opening night concert Mosaic at 7:30 pm at the Pacific Spirit United Church.

Featuring four world premieres from Canadian, American, and Italian composers, this highly varied program offers a scintillating contemporary vision of nature, the environment, and the land we live on.

The evening will feature two major works for choir, Latvian Pēteris Vasks’s Mūsu māšu, vārdi, and Canadian Laura Hawley’s new suite Tapestry.

The concert also acts as an introduction for the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s composer-in-residence for this season, Andrew Balfour. Two of his pieces, contrasting but equally powerful, will appear in the show.

An artist of Cree descent, Balfour is a unique voice in Canadian choral music. His work reflects a solid compositional technique, ties to Indigenous tradition, and an affinity to early music.

Tickets to the concert are available here.
