Vancouver Chamber Choir will close out its home subscription series with a final concert, REFLECTIONS, on May 12 at 7:30 pm at the Pacific Spirit United Church. The concert will kick off the choir’s subsequent tour to Estonia and Finland from June 3 to 18.

Taking a break from the typical choral concert format, the evening’s repertoire will be presented in three sets with two short intermissions.

In the first set, the choir’s artistic director Kari Turunen explores the tensions between old and new, Indigenous and settler, and English and French that inspire Canadian music. Closing the set is the world premiere of Snowdrops commissioned by Canadian-Finnish musician Matthew Whittall, the choir’s 2022-23 composer-in-residence.

The second set focuses on the psalm settings of Estonian composer Cyrillus Kreek, and the final set is an Estonian-Finnish combination of large-form choral works by Evelin Seppar, Arvo Pärt, Mikko Nisula, and Toivo Kuula.

A pre-concert talk with Turunen and Whittall will take place at 7 pm. Tickets to REFLECTIONS are available here.
