Vancouver International Jazz Festival unveils free jazz shows around the city, June 22 to 30

Jazz drummer, rapper, and producer Kassa Overall and rapper-DJ Odario to headline Downtown Jazz series outside the Vancouver Art Gallery

Coastal Jazz has just announced its free programming for the 2024 Vancouver International Jazz Festival, including 20 Downtown Jazz shows on two stages outside the Vancouver Art Gallery June 22 and June 23, and across Granville Island venues from June 21 to 30.

At the Vancouver Art Gallery and šxwƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square, free Downtown Jazz shows will kick off at 12 pm each day, with the last performance at 7:30 pm. A full day of high-energy shows by local and international artists on June 22 will wrap up with a headlining performance by jazz drummer, rapper, and producer Kassa Overall.

Hip hop will return to the Downtown Jazz Georgia Street stage on June 23 with a closing night performance by Odario, who will also DJ as Odario Williams After Dark over the weekend at Ocean Artworks. Other featured artists in the series include Jason Winikoff Hot 5, Parlour Panther, Itamar Erez Quartet, Juana Molina, Peggy Lee Band, Blue Moon Marquee, George, and Y La Bamba. Plus, Performance Works, Ocean Artworks, and the Revue Stage will host various free events that include an author talk, jazz performances, and late-night DJ sets.

The 2024 Vancouver International Jazz Festival will also feature programming at six downtown venues as part of its Club Series, and five North Shore locations as part of the North Shore Jazz Series presented by the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts at Capilano University.
