Vancouver New Music’s Parallels series returns this spring with Parallel 06: Ioana Vreme Moser. The Berlin-based Romanian sound artist presents her concert Screaming Minerals at the Annex on March 16 at 8 pm, featuring a pre-show artist chat at 7:15 pm.

Moser’s sonic lecture-performance follows the rise of information technologies and their environmental decay. As algorithms become exponentially intelligent, Screaming Minerals delves into their entangled politics, fragility, and toxicity.

Moments of improvisation are created using transistor instruments made of waste, which collectively form an orchestra. Noises and tones emerge as radiosensitive stones and pieces of scrap metal are scratched with needles. Oscillation occurs at the precise touch of a burned spot, offering the possibility of highly unpredictable sonic landscapes.

Screaming Minerals also features a collaborative installment-style performance by participants from Sizzling Semiconductors, a three-day electronic sound-making device workshop hosted by Moser.

Tickets to the concert and more details are at Vancouver New Music.
