Vancouver Improvised Arts Society will host its second annual West Coast String Summit on May 25 and 26 at The Ironworks and 8EAST.

The West Coast String Summit is a place to connect, collaborate, listen, learn, and be inspired through the power of art. Alongside community partners Vancouver New Music, The Only Animal, KW Studios, and NOW, Vancouver Improvised Arts Society will present two days of concerts, workshops, and a Slow Social that showcase contemporary string players, composers, and improvisers.

The concert lineup will feature Laura Ortman, a Brooklyn-based White Mountain Apache experimental violinist who creates visceral and moving performances. Back by popular demand is the incredible pairing of violinist Jesse Zubot and Tuscarora-Taíno vocalist Pura Fé in Chamber of Bones, backed by an ensemble of local string legends. Plus, acclaimed cellist Marina Hasselberg will showcase compositions and improvisations from her recent album Red.
