Vancouver Symphony Orchestra presents Tausk Conducts Shostakovich & Adams at the Orpheum on April 26 and 27 at 8 pm, as part of the Assante Vancouver Centre Masterworks Diamond Series.

In the spring concert, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra music director Otto Tausk and violin virtuoso Paul Huang rise to the challenge of Shostakovich’s emotionally charged and frenzied Violin Concerto No. 1. Following suit, John Adams’s groundbreaking Harmonielehre receives its much-anticipated B.C. premiere, propelling the orchestra to new heights with its vision of an oil tanker rocketing skyward. Plus, the orchestra performs the world premiere of B.C. composer Nicholas Ryan Kelly’s Earth, Beloved alongside the radiant Elektra Women’s Choir.

Taiwanese-American violinist Huang plays the legendary 1742 “ex-Wieniawski” Guarneri del Gesù violin on extended loan through the Stradivari Society of Chicago, and is on the faculty of Taipei National University of the Arts.

Tickets and more details are at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.
