Join Carey Newman at the West Vancouver Memorial Library for an unmissable evening on what drives his artistic process at Tech Talk with Witness Blanket Artist Carey Newman on February 8 from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. The evening will begin with a Traditional Welcome offered by Chepx̱imiya Siyam’ Chief Janice George of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation).

Newman, whose traditional name is Hayalthkin’geme, is a multidisciplinary artist, master carver, filmmaker, author, and public speaker. He is of Kwakwak’awakw, Coast Salish, and settler descent.

Perhaps the artist’s most influential work, the Witness Blanket is made of items collected from residential schools, government buildings, and churches across Canada. It is now part of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights collection, and a cedar-framed touring replica is on view at the West Vancouver Memorial Library through to March 10.
