Grammy-nominated singer Gretchen Parlato and Herbie Hancock’s acclaimed guitarist Lionel Loueke grace the stage at Capilano University’s BlueShore Financial Centre for the Arts on October 10 at 7:30 pm, in a night of sensual, alluring music.

The duo will perform songs from their sublime world-jazz album Lean In. Centred on West African and Brazilian grooves that highlight Parlato’s feather-light voice and Loueke’s brilliant guitar work, the album features original songs and improvisational interludes, along with a few select covers.

Parlato and Loueke both started out playing New York’s jazz circuit. Over the years, Loueke worked with luminaries like Terence Blanchard and Hancock, while Parlato played with Wayne Shorter and Esperanza Spalding, among others. Parlato has earned two Grammy nominations for Best Jazz Vocal Album—once for her 2015 album Live in NYC, and again for her 2021 record Flor.
