Shake the Earth: Tap & Taiko.

The Chan Centre for the Performing Arts presents Shake the Earth: Tap & Taiko on October 22 at 3 pm in the Chan Shun Concert Hall, as part of the Inspired at the Chan concert series.

Performed by Uzume Taiko drummers with Vancouver Tap Dance Society members Jeffrey Dawson, Riley Skworoda, and Joel Hanna, Shake the Earth: Tap & Taiko revolves around the four seasons. From the excited and energetic play of the midday sun, to the calm and reflective shadows of the moon, the concert is a celebration of rhythm.

The combination of taiko drummers and percussive dancers prompts curiosity around how sound becomes music, when pattern becomes rhythm, and what compels people to dance.

Shake the Earth Human Rhythm Workshop, a post-event add-on activity where participants can learn basic tap and taiko movements, takes place in the Telus Studio Theatre from 4:15 pm to 5 pm.

Tickets to the concert and workshop are available here.
