Angelic music heralds spring at Early Music Vancouver with the presentation of the aptly named On the Breath of Angels, at Christ Church Cathedral on March 3 at 7:30 pm.

The show will feature Czech soprano Hana Blažíková, famed cornetto player Bruce Dickey, and their ensemble The Breathtaking Collective.

From the mid-16th century into the 18th, the cornetto was often depicted in art as an instrument of angels in paintings, sculptures, and engravings. On the Breath of Angels draws on this connection as inspiration for a musical journey that ranges from 1600 to the present day, exploring how the cornetto and the human voice can interact, imitate each other, and entwine musically.

Works by 17th-century composers Francesco Cavalli and Giacomo Carissimi will be heard next to pieces by early century French composer Erik Satie, as well as contemporary composers Ivan Moody and Julian Wachner.

Tickets for the show can be purchased at Early Music Vancouver.
