Friends of Chamber Music welcomes audiences to their just-announced 76th season, with concerts featuring internationally renowned artists performing works from the rich chamber music repertoire.

For their 2023-24 lineup of 10 diverse concerts, the society invites back six audience favourites, and introduces four new groups.

The season kicks off on October 17 at 7:30 pm with a return performance from Zemlinsky Quartet, a Czech ensemble, playing selections from Tailleferre, Zemlinsky, and Beethoven. Bennewitz Quartet, another returning Czech ensemble, will close the season next spring on April 9 at 7:30 pm, with Romantic and modern Czech music by Krasa, Janáček, and Dvořák.

Three other groups will take to the stage this year. The Mandelring Quartet plays on October 29 at 3 pm; this fabulous German ensemble will entertain audiences with selections from Shostakovich and Ligeti, as well as a late Beethoven quartet.

The Busch Trio delivers Ravel and Shostakovich piano pieces on November 7 at 7:30 pm, along with a fine Mozart work, in the Friends of Chamber Music premiere performance from this Amsterdam-based piano trio. Takács Quartet wraps up 2023’s shows on December 5 at 7:30 pm; this perennial audience favourite will delight with selections from Haydn, Bartók, and Schubert.

Goldmund Quartet launches the concerts planned for 2024 on January 30—crowds can enjoy Haydn, Borodin, and Beethoven in the society’s first performance featuring this talented German ensemble.

Audience favourite Han Finckel Setzer Trio plays two masterworks on February 6: Schubert’s Opus 99 and Opus 100 piano trios. Another returning crowd-pleaser performs March 12, the Karol Szymanowski Quartet, playing early and late Haydn, Schoenberg, Mendelssohn, and Szymanowski.

Two concerts from first-time Friends of Chamber Music performers round out the season lineup. Emerging ensemble Fauré Piano Quartet presents music from Mahler, Brahms, and Fauré on March 26; plus, German ensemble Signum Quartet delivers a mixed programme from various masters on April 2.

Friends of Chamber Music offers a discounted 10-concert subscription package, as well as a four-concert Pick Your Own Series package. Single tickets and discounted student tickets are also available. More information can be found here.
