Friends of Chamber Music welcomes Germany’s Fauré Quartett for their first Vancouver concert on March 26 at 7:30 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse.

Considered one of the top piano quartets worldwide, the Fauré Quartett’s visionary approach includes discovering new sound fields and performing compositions outside the mainstream repertoire.

For this concert, audiences will hear three magnificent works played with finesse and sensitivity. The lineup opens with Gustav Mahler’s sole surviving piece of instrumental chamber music, his Piano Quartet in A Minor (which is also known by its original German name Klavierquartettsatz). A work by the group’s namesake, Gabriel Fauré, follows: Piano Quartet No. 1 in C Minor, Opus 15, one of three masterpieces of the composer’s youth. The concert concludes with Johannes Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 1 in G Minor, Opus 25, an ambitious work written by the composer at age 28.
