National Geographic Live series kicks off with Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice, May 9 at Orpheum Theatre

Vancouver Civic Theatres has announced it’s presenting the illustrated speaker series National Geographic Live, connecting Vancouver audiences with renowned photographers, filmmakers and explorers.

The series will stage three shows at the Orpheum theatre in 2023 that travel from the bottom of the ocean to the highest mountain peaks: Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice on May 9, Life on the Vertical on September 12, and Wild Cats of India on October 24. The talks cover fascinating topics such as rare undersea photography, big rock climbing, and lesser-known felines of India, all accompanied by striking photography and captivating video.

The shows are a chance to hear stories from some of the world’s most renowned adventurers.

Photographers David Doubilet and Jennifer Hayes are on hand for the series launch, Coral Kingdoms and Empires of Ice on May 9, bringing images of the waters of Kimbe Bay, Papua New Guinea—part of the famed Coral Triangle. They also venture into the mysterious world beneath the Antarctic ice, and to the Gulf of St. Lawrence to capture images of whales, wolffish and harp seals.

Legendary climber and National Geographic adventure writer and climber Mark Synnott is on hand for Life on the Vertical on September 12. He’ll speak the remote, inaccessible places he reaches to scientists make significant discoveries. And in October, photographer and filmmaker Sandesh Kadur speaks about the wild cats who inhabit India’s landscapes, spanning the towering Himalayas, arid plains and dense jungles.
