Raincity Theatre presents Cabaret at 191 Alexander from October 15 to November 5

THE AD HOC COMPANY that earned four Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards for its Sweeney Todd set in a Gastown storefront is back with another site-specific musical.

This time out, the top-notch musical performers of Raincity Theatre are mounting the iconic Cabaret back in Gastown, turning the historic brick-walled space at 191 Alexander Street into the famed Kit Kat Club of Weimar-era Berlin.

Director Chris Adams and choreographer Nicol Spinola have staged the story of self-destructive chanteuse Sally Bowles amid a real cabaret setting for this rendition of the musical created by Tony Award-winning team John Kander and Fred Ebb, with book by Joe Masteroff. Theatre Under the Stars’ Kevin Woo heads up musical direction.

The cast includes Alex Gullason as Sally Bowles and Graham Coffeng as the outrageous Emcee, as well as acclaimed local stage stars Nick Fontaine, Caitriona Murphy, and Sanders Whiting.

You’ll be able to see them swirl around you, as they sing famous songs like “Maybe This Time” and “Life Is a Cabaret”.

In other words, this show invites you to come to the cabaret, old chums—quite literally.
