The video club in the village of St-François-Xavier de Brompton, where four marginal and whimsical characters intersect, is doomed to disappear. Nearby, Lake Tomcod, swimming in pollution, is also dying. No circulation means the elements stagnate, dust particles accumulate and the tempers of the small town heat up. What happens when we lose our bearings?

André Gélineau.

In the quirky and caustic romp S'effondrent les vidéoclubs, Quebec playwright André Gélineau takes on this question and the many interrogations we face with the upheavals of a changing world. Somewhere between fantasy and delusion, the writer delivers a satirical play, skilfully subverting the documentary genre.

For this show, La Seizième teams up again with director Gilles Poulin-Denis (Le Soulier, Straight Jacket Winter, Bonjour, là, Bonjour) and gathers a creative team filled with well known names from our artistic community: actors Yurij Kis, France France Perras, and Frédérique Roussel, as well as designers Jennifer Stewart, Malcom Dow, Joel Grinke, Sophie Tang, and Donnie Tejani.

S’effondrent les vidéoclubs runs May 25 to June 4 at Studio 16 in French with English surtitles. Meet the Artists takes place May 27 in French and June 3 in French and English.

More information is at La Seizième.
