THE VANCOUVER ART GALLERY got a celebrity boost to its #GivingTuesday kickoff today, as writer, director, and actor Seth Rogen tweeted his support.
“Hello! If you have the resources, make a #GivingTuesday donation to my hometown art gallery @vanartgallery. The Gallery needs our support more than ever. You too can say you support VAG, and who doesn’t want to support VAG? Thanks!,” he wrote on his Twitter feed, which has a mindboggling 8.7 million followers.
Though galleries are allowed to remain open now through COVID-19 measures, but social distancing means admissions revenue is way down. Attendance has been at only 20% compared to previous years.
“Without tours, event rentals, school groups, festivals and corporate gatherings -- not to mention fewer local visitors -- the Gallery faces its most challenging time in its history,” the gallery said today in a statement.
But in pother good news ttoday, it announced the Canfor Corporation will match all gifts made on #GivingTuesday up to $25,000.
Arts groups across the city are running similar campaigns all day, a chance to support the city’s culture through the pandemic and beyond.
