The February edition of The Dance Centre’s popular Discover Dance! noon-hour series features Voirelia Dance Hub, an innovative Vancouver company whose original contemporary dance works draw on psychology, philosophy, and literature.

Choreographed by Alina Sotskova, De/Formed Revival is inspired by Renaissance art and sculpture. Three expressive, finely honed dancers (Hana Rutka, Ben DeFaria, and Will Jessup) trace a journey of transformation. Using the metaphor of sculptures coming to life, the work explores how to release the past and embrace change.

Sotskova, who founded Voirelia Dance Hub in 2017, also holds a PhD in clinical psychology. Her practice actively informs her choreography, as her works explore the complexities of the human experience.

The Dance Centre has presented the Discover Dance! series since 2002, highlighting the diversity of B.C.’s dance scene in an informal, accessible format.

Tickets to the performance, which takes place at the Scotiabank Dance Centre on February 29 at 12 pm, are available at The Dance Centre.
