Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is pleased to present The Rite of Spring from Friday, March 10 to Sunday, March 12.

VSO music director Otto Tausk will explore the music of Robert Schumann with Symphony No. 1, Spring, alongside one of the 20th century’s most important musical works, Igor Stravinsky’s scandalous The Rite of Spring. The latter work’s celebration of pagan ritual caused a riot at its premiere in 1913—and it is now recognized as a modern masterpiece.

The orchestra will perform two other exceptional pieces: Rodney Sharman’s After Schumann; and Rita Ueda’s Bloom, which was commissioned by the VSO and Victoria Symphony.

Friday’s 7 pm performance at the Orpheum Theatre is part of the Musically Speaking series; Saturday’s 7 pm performance at Bell Performing Arts Centre is part of the Surrey Nights series; and Sunday’s 2 pm performance is back at the Orpheum Theatre for RGF Integrated Wealth Symphony Sundays.

Tickets and more details are available here.
