VIFF and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music present Cabin Music, a film and concert event featuring Canadian pianist James Carson, on November 9 at 7:30 pm.

In this unique event, Carson’s self-directed documentary Cabin Music is screened at the VIFF Centre’s Vancity Theatre starting at 7:30 pm with an introduction and Q&A. At 9 pm, there is a short intermission during which guests walk three and a half blocks north to the VSO School of Music’s Pyatt Hall, where Carson plays a live piano concert beginning at 9:30 pm.

More than a decade in the making, Cabin Music tells Carson’s personal story of a prodigious classical pianist who turns his back on concert halls to travel and reflect. He returns to build an off-grid cabin with his friends in the Canadian wilderness, a meditative retreat where he can play, experiment, and compose in harmony with nature.

Tickets and details are here.
