The 9th annual Vines Art Festival takes place from August 9 to 19 at parks around Vancouver, with a collection of eight free events on the lineup.

On August 17 at Grandview Park, the festival invites guests to see Rooted Relations, a gathering of Indigenous artists. In sourcing strength from their relationship to the land and culture, these bold storytellers explore how folks deepen collective roots each year and entangle with new relations. Despite the ongoing gentrification of East Vancouver, urban Indigenous artists remind everyone that colonial law is a fallacy on stolen land.

The festival closes out with Flowing Upstream on August 19 at Trout Lake Park, a full day of song, dance, installations, and performances from 30 talented artists. Water has connected people for centuries— and with the belief that individuals are stronger together, Flowing Upstream welcomes new waterways of resistance, renewal, and cleansing to build a more inclusive community.

More information on the festival and events can be found here.
