Alliance Française Vancouver has actively promoted interest in bilingualism and francophone cultures since 1904. Its mission is to offer French language education programs to all ages and levels; promote local and international francophone cultures; and provide a welcoming space for the community to gather.

The nonprofit organization is managed by a local board of directors elected by its members.

Alliance Française Vancouver presents an innovative, diverse, and inclusive cultural program every year across multiple disciplines. In collaboration with a strong network of local and international partners, its events are hosted in-person in a stunning new facility, or online. Its programs are suitable for people of all ages and all levels of French.

The Alliance’s new landmark building is located at 6161 Cambie Street in the dynamic Oakridge neighborhood between two SkyTrain stations. The eco-friendly, modern structure aims to be the heart of the francophone and francophile community in Vancouver, with a skylight that amplifies the light-filled design, and a large west-facing exterior terrace offers a sunny patio space and mountain views for visitors and event rentals.

The four-floor, 30,000-square-foot headquarters features a professional theatre, demonstration kitchen, media library, artist studio space, 1,120-square-foot art gallery for local and international artists, library, French café and bistrot, and plenty more. The vast space welcomes the public to learn French in its modern classes—there are 16 classrooms for French-language and -culture courses (Alliance Française Vancouver offers lessons to folks age three and up). You can also attend a show or screening in the theatre, immerse yourself in an exhibit in the gallery, cook delicious food in the demonstration kitchen, or borrow new media from the library. Amid the ongoing roster of inspiring events on its constantly updated cultural calendar are book clubs, family arts and crafts, board-game nights, and concerts. There is something for everyone at Alliance Française Vancouver.

The Vancouver organization is a proud part of Alliance Française, the largest cultural network in the world, with more than 800 centers in 135 countries and 550,000 students.
