IT’S PEAK FARMERS market season, and whether you’re seeking a shop-local spot nearby or on a road trip, the BC Farmers’ Market Trail is a great place to start.

The website is the definitive guide to more than 145 farmers’ markets all over B.C. Combined, these represent some 4,000-plus farmers, producers, makers, and entrepreneurs.

In Vancouver proper, the online resource features info on everything from Trout Lake Farmers’ Market to UBC Farm Saturday Farmers’ Market.

In Metro Vancouver, there are 18 markets to check out, from Burnaby’s Nikkei Garden Farmers Market to Haney Farmers’ Market.

New this year are five featured regions: Sunshine Coast; Vancouver Island and Gulf Islands; Cariboo Chilcotin Coast; Kootenay Rockies and Columbian Basin; and Northern BC.

You can search for markets by region or by features such as wheelchair accessibility or whether it’s dog-friendly or has a bike lock-up, electric vehicle charging station, or live music.

“Throughout COVID, farmers’ markets across the province have continued to operate and heroically stepped up to support the safety of customers, vendors and market organizers,” Heather O’Hara, executive director at BCAFM, said in a release. “It’s more clear now than ever that in order for our local economy to thrive, we need farmers and small businesses to survive and the public to support these local businesses.”
