Juno-winning pianist Charles Richard-Hamelin performs all-Chopin program, September 25

The concert launches the Vancouver Chopin Society’s 2022-23 season

The Vancouver Chopin Society presents Charles Richard-Hamelin on September 25 at 3 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse

 

MONTREAL-BASED PIANIST Charles Richard-Hamelin was the first Canadian to earn silver at the 2010 International Chopin Competition. Ever since, numerous accolades have followed: second prize at the 2014 Montreal International Musical Competition and third prize at the Seoul International Music Competition in South Korea; and silver medal and laureate of the Krystian Zimerman Prize at the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, to name just a few. The recipient of the prestigious Order of Arts and Letters of Quebec, he has performed with more than 50 symphonies, orchestras, and other leading ensembles all over the planet (including Vancouver Symphony Orchestra). He has recorded over 10 albums, one of which earned a Juno award. Five of his albums are dedicated primarily to Chopin’s solo piano works.

Having studied at McGill University, Yale School of Music, and Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal, the artist is an international master teacher who has taught at VSO School of Music.

The artist’s upcoming recital marks his third with the Vancouver Chopin Society. On the program are Chopin’s Nocturnes op. 27 No. 1 in C-sharp minor and No. 2 in D-flat major; Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor op. 35; and 24 Préludes.

After the performance, Richard-Hamelin will be signing copies of his CD The Chopin Préludes, which will available for sale for $20.
