AFTER A BRUTAL year for Chinatown food businesses, Myodetox Chinatown and WSDM Club barbers are encouraging people to support the area’s ventures through their appetites.

Nice Day is a new initiative asking people to go to at least eight eateries in the historic neighbourhood, with a chance to win a big prize that those who love to eat out will covet.

Here’s how it works: you pick up a Nice Day menu, which lists all participating restaurants, at Myodetox Chinatown. (The company provides manual therapies such as licensed physiotherapy and registered massage therapy.) You eat at each place either by dining in or ordering take-out directly (no third-party food apps).

Each visit will get you a sticker; the goal is to collect eight from eight different places. Once you return your sticker-filled menu to Myodetox, you’ll be entered to win a grand prize of $800 in restaurant gift cards. (Myodetox and WSDM Club are purchasing the gift certs at full price to support Chinatown businesses.)

Among the places to eat are Kim Wai Dim Sum, Kokomo (plant-based bowls and smoothies), Manpuku (Japanese bento), Kent’s Kitchen (Chinese takeout), the Boss (a bakery and Hong Kong café-style restaurant), New Town (Chinese and Filipino baked goods), DD Mau (Vietnamese fare), Fat Mao (modern Asian noodle bar), Ramen Butcher (Japanese Hakata-style Tonkotsu ramen), the Union (Southeast Asian food), Chinatown Master BBQ (Chinese barbecued meats), Kissa Tanto (Japanese-Italian fusion), Pizza Coming Soon (an eclectic Japanese snack bar), Bodega on Main (modern tapas), Shuck Shuck (a sustainable-oyster snack bar), and many more.

The event runs to June 13. Registration is $5, with all proceeds going toward the Vancouver Chinatown Business Improvement Association.
