“A SPIRITUAL ADVENTURE of displaced Caribbean folklore with a fun East Van sensibility to its enlightening humour”: This is Carousel Theatre for Young People’s  second AudioPLAY production of Rishi & d Douen, an interactive audio performance produced by Rumble Theatre.

It tells the story of Rishi, who can hear forest spirits and speak to trees and who meets a mythical Douen deep in the forest.

While the show is recommended for kids aged six and up, it touches on topics such as colonization, spirituality, and ancestry.

“This is a great fit for what we’re trying to do. With its focus on family and folklore from the Caribbean Diaspora – this show is very much part of our implicit aims to spotlight and share stories from under-represented communities—which most of us can proudly say we come from,” Rumble Theatre artistic director Jivesh Parasram said in a release.

The screen-free at-home (or at-school) AudioPLAY has interactive elements designed to engage audiences. Created by Jivesh Parasram, Christopher Ross-Ewart, Gavan Cheema, Molly MacKinnon, and Christine Quintana, Rishi & d Douen runs until February 28.

More information is at Carousel Theatre.
