Young violin star Christian Li makes his Canadian debut at Vancouver Recital Society, March 24
The 16-year-old comes here trailing rave reviews and a bunch of “youngest-ever-to” firsts
Vancouver Recital Society presents Christian Li on March 24 at the Vancouver Playhouse
AT ONLY 10 years old, Aussie violinist Christian Li won the Junior Category of the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists.
It was the first in what has been a nonstop series of “the youngest ever to…” moments. That’s included becoming the youngest artist to sign with Decca Classics, proceeding to release a rapturously reviewed album of Antonio Vivaldi’s Four Seasons in 2021. His performance of Summer chalked up around 2 million views on YouTube.
At home in Australia, he’s a big deal, playing outdoor concerts with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl.
Already an international success at 16, Li is ready to make his Canadian debut with Vancouver Recital Society. As the society’s Leila Getz, known for her eye for rising talent has said, this is your “I heard him when…” moment.
The program he brings here is wide-ranging, showing all of the teen artist’s expressive depth and versatility. It includes Mozart’s vibrant, energized Sonata No. 22 in A Major, two serene Tchaikovsky valses, with unexpected splashes of Tartini (“Devil’s Trill”), and De Falla. Sri Lankan pianist Rohan De Silva accompanies him on the Vancouver Playhouse stage.
