The Vancouver Chamber Choir opens its 56th season with Beacon of Light, a celebration of hope and renewal, on October 2 at Pacific Spirit United Church.

The awe-inspiring sanctuary will be filled with the magical mixture of vocals and organ music as the choir teams up with renowned local organist Neil Cockburn for Maurice Duruflé’s monumental Requiem, Op. 9, Arvo Pärt’s setting of the hymn Salve regina, and the Canadian premiere of Tawnie Olson’s Missa Brevis. Olson is no stranger to the choir, and this concert marks the beginning of her season-long tenure as its latest Composer-in-Residence.

Also on the program is David Lang’s “when we were children”, which will introduce audiences to Lang’s music ahead of the choir’s production of his Little Match Girl Passion with Belle Spirale Dance Projects in November.
