Laila Biali and Jodi Proznick play the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on October 21 at 8 pm; livestream tickets still available
A DYNAMITE double bill is hitting the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts tomorrow, as two local female artists who interweave jazz and pop in fresh ways—Laila Biali and Jodi Proznick—join forces. The live show is sold out, but unlimited streaming tickets are still available.
Bass player Proznick opens the evening with music from her album Sun Songs, featuring Biali on vocals.
Biali will follow with a quartet performance highlighting material from her self-titled album and her latest JUNO-nominated release, Out of Dust, an album that journeys through highs and lows, the personal and political. The artist, who’s not just a singer-songwriter and pianist but a CBC Music national radio host, has performed around the world, from New York City’s Carnegie Hall to Beijing’s National Centre for the Performing Arts, and has even supported international icon Sting.
Like Proznick, she defies labels, venturing into jazz improvisations but also touching on blues, soul, and ballads.
