The Vancouver Art Gallery presents the Diversity Reads Podcast, in partnership with UBC Arts and Culture District, on April 29 at 4 pm

THE DIVERSITY READS podcast goes beyond the basic book club. A podcast that highlights the voices of BIPOC, LGBTQ+, disabled and neurodivergent authors, its lively discussions are hosted by Afro-Latina writer, producer, activist, and UBC Film Studies student Coral Santana via Spotify; it’s brought to you by the UBC Arts and Culture District.

But Thursday, the Vancouver Art Gallery is hosting a special live rendition of the podcast via its Art Connects series. The episode will feature special guests Cicely Belle Blain, activist and founder of Black Lives Matter Vancouver, and Stephanie Bokenfohr, public programs coordinator at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Together, they’ll discuss Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo, touching on the themes of relationships, race, identity, and ancestry, as well as the structures of storytelling and LGBTQA+ representation. The tie-in at theVAG is the exhibition Stories that animate us, with its own dialogue around questions of who is entitled to tell which stories and why.
