Monsoon Festival of Performing Arts presents Chai with T on August 19 at 6:30 pm at Surrey Arts Centre Studio Theatre

MONSOON FESTIVAL OF PERFORMING ARTS is offering people the chance to sit in on a live recording of the popular podcast Chai with T, hosted by Vancouver’s Tarannum Thind, featuring a pair of local South-Asian social-media stars.

Thind will be speaking with Surrey siblings Amreen Gill—aka Bhangralicious—and Swarndeep Gill.

While the Gills both have their independent projects, they work closely together on Bhangralicious, which has grown into a brand all its own with a global audience in the South Asian diaspora and beyond. There, they share, celebrate, and poke fun at their Punjabi culture. They also use their platform to shed light on systemic issues and outdated cultural beliefs, raising awareness of everything from mental health to gender equality. The brother and sister actor-dcomedians both also create their own original content via their respective social-media accounts. (Check out Amreen’s Instagram here and Swarndeep’s here. Find them on TikTok @OGBhangralicious, Twitter, and Facebook.)

The pair’s online presence started out with Amreen’s original dance tutorials and workouts inspired by bhangra and Punjabi folk dance, Swarndeep shooting, editing, and producing the videos. The Bhangralicious YouTube channel has had more than 78 million views since its inception in 2018 and has more than 548,000 subscribers. Sketch comedy and satirical videos followed, to wildly popular effect. Many of their dance videos—like the Black and White Challenge Tutorial, above—have gone viral.

Having grown up in India, the two went on to study in North America—Amreen in the U.S. and Swarndeep in Alberta—moving to Surrey in 2018.

Amreen appeared in a 2022 national TV commercial for Nanak Foods alongside actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh. Both Gills have worked on social-media content creation with companies like Nanak Foods, Inchin’s Bamboo, and Dil Mil, among others. The two are also launching their first comedy mini-series.

Thind has more than 20 years’ of broadcasting experience. She is known for her warm, approachable style and always sips on a cup of chai during her interviews.
