The Vancouver Chopin Society presents Eric Lu on May 22 at 3 pm at the Vancouver Playhouse

PIANIST ERIC LU was just 17 years old when he earned global attention as a prize winner at the 2015 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. That same year, Vancouver Chopin Society presented him in concert, and he’s about to make his return engagement. (His 2020 performance had to be cancelled because of the pandemic.)

The winner of the unanimous first prize at the 2018 Leeds International Piano Competition is in demand the world over as a recitalist and concerto soloist. The recipient of the 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Lu is an exclusive Warner Classics recording artist who has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seattle Symphony, Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Finnish Radio Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The Hallé, BBC Philharmonic, Orchestre National de Lille, Warsaw Philharmonic, Shanghai Symphony, and Singapore Symphony, to name just a few. He’s based in Berlin and Boston.

“Lu seems already to possess something of the magic touch of early Leeds laureates Murray Perahia and Radu Lupu”, The Guardian once wrote, describing the artist as a “veritable poet of the keyboard”.

In a review of Lu’s recording of Chopin’s Preludes, Gramophone had this to say: “Lu explores these miniatures with the utmost poetry and sensitivity….It is how Lu fashioned the set as a single whole that is the most inspiring aspect.”

Concert tickets will be sold to 75 percent of the theatre’s capacity. See The Vancouver Chopin Society for more information.
