The Improv Centre
The Vancouver Improv Centre Society (The Improv Centre) is one of Vancouver’s leading and best-known improv theatre companies.
The Improv Centre was originally established in 1981 under the name The Vancouver TheatreSports League, to promote, develop, maintain, and present improvisational theatre productions and presentations to local and visiting audiences in Vancouver.
As it reopened following the pandemic closure, The Improv Centre continues to promote artistic excellence and values the growth, development and life-long learning of improvisors of all backgrounds and experience levels. Dedicated to artistic excellence, integrity, diversity and inclusivity, the company has made a commitment to prioritizing outreach and engagement with the broader arts community and is proud to be establishing partnerships with organizations representing and advocating for marginalized and underrepresented communities.
The Improv Centre office and 186-seat theatre are located on Vancouver’s Granville Island, with a waterfront patio on the False Creek Marina. Each year, over 60,000 audience members, artists, and students enjoy the theatre’s productions. Its regular shows include TheatresportsTM every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night, with two teams of highly skilled improv comedians vying for the laughs and support of audience judges—and a high-energy, fast-paced and good-natured competition. Wednesdays are Date Night, a spicy night full of laughter and love for couples and singles alike! The company is also known for its light-hearted holiday specialty shows. As well, there is a monthly standup comedy showcase, a fabulous monthly Drag show and many fun and quirky guest shows!
