The Improv Centre presents Exploration Blank from April 9 to June 27
INTERGALACTIC STORIES have long yielded some of pop culture’s most memorable characters, from ruthless villain Darth Vader to loveable little alien E.T.
The Improv Centre is taking a page out of those iconic works with a new show called Exploration Blank, in which the ensemble members will play a rag-tag group of space explorers navigating different adventures. The plot each night will come together with a mix of audience suggestions and improv mini-games. Expect the unexpected, as the performers act out everything from the discovery of new star systems to an extraterrestrial capturing.
Exploration Blank is the brainchild of The Improv Centre’s new artistic director Alan Pavlakovic, marking the first show he’ll oversee as producer since stepping into the role last fall. But rest assured that Pavlakovic is no stranger to the improv stage; he’s been a member of the company’s mainstage ensemble since 2022, and co-created its reality TV–inspired production The Bachelor-ish last spring.
The show will come to life with plenty of cool special effects, namely celestial soundscapes and flashing lights. A bosun whistle will emulate some of the sounds we all know and love from sci-fi TV and cinema—it’s the little pipe that makes a high-pitched whistle, most memorably used by Enterprise commanding officers in Star Trek to communicate with their crew.
Opening night for Exploration Blank is April 9. After that, it’ll run at The Improv Centre every Friday and Saturday evening until June 27. ![]()
