Arts Club announces cast, creative team for Peter Pan Goes Wrong

North American premiere features an entirely Western Canadian cast from Vancouver and Edmonton

THE ARTS CLUB Theatre Company has announced new details about Peter Pan Goes Wrong, an international comedy sensation from Mischief Theatre Worldwide that launches the Arts Club’s 2022-23 season.

The show runs from September 8 to October 16 at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage.

Nominated for an Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, Peter Pan Goes Wrong turns the childhood story of the boy who never grew up into an comedic disaster. As the beloved members of the The Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society try their best to put on the J.M. Barrie classic, they find themselves facing everything from technical glitches to cast quarrels.

The Arts Club’s production in association with Citadel Theatre marks the North American premiere and includes an entirely Western Canadian cast from Vancouver and Edmonton. Originally programmed for the 2019-20 season, the show was postponed due to the pandemic.

The Herald Sun has described the show as a “side-splitting farce for the whole family”, while London Official Theatre summed it up as “two hours of pure comic bliss”.

Based on original direction by Adam Meggido, the production will feature choreography by Christine Bandelow, musical direction by Steven Greenfield, and creative costume and set design by Simon Scullion.

The cast includes Alexander Ariate (Dennis), April Banigan (Francis), Alexandra Brynn (Sandra), Jamie Cavanagh (Jonathan), Chris Cochrane (Robert), Belinda Cornish (Annie), Gabriel Covarrubias Oropeza (Cornley Crew B; understudy Dennis, Max), Andrew Cownden (standby; understudy Chris, Robert, Trevor, Jonathan, Cornley Crew A, Cornley Crew B), Oscar Derkx (Max), Sebastian Kroon (Trevor), Rochelle Laplante (Lucy; understudy Sandra), Camille Legg (Cornley Crew A; understudy Annie, Lucy, Frances), and Andrew MacDonald-Smith (Chris).

Other members of the creative team are Matt Haskins (lighting designer), Jeff Osterlin (associate lighting designer), ­­Ella Wahström (sound designer), Owen Hutchinson (associate sound designer), Karen Johnson-Diamond (assistant director), Janine Waddell (fight director and stunt coordinator), Samara Von Rad (stunt co-coordinator), Pamela Jakobs (stage manager), Angela Beaulieu (assistant stage manager), and Mandy Huang (apprentice stage manager).

“This piece is the perfect, family-friendly slapstick celebration of theatre to open our 2022–2023 season,” Arts Club artistic director Ashlie Corcoran said in a release. “We’re thrilled this North American Premiere Production will be featuring an all-Canadian cast, including some local Arts Club favourites. The show really has it all—high energy, imagination, and, of course, endless laughs. I think Mischief Theatre’s work has been so successful because they do silly humour with such heart, smarts, and passion, and Peter Pan Goes Wrong is no exception!”
