BALLET BC’s upcoming 2022-23 season spans an international co-production with Finland’s Tero Saarinen Company; visits by choreographers Adi Salant, Roy Assaf, and Johan Inger; and the first return of Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s The Nutcracker in three pandemic years.

In the just-announced lineup, the season launches November 3 to 5 with OVERTURE/S, featuring an intimate work by Ballet BC artistic director Medhi Walerski called Silent Tides, as well as a new creation from in-demand Dutch choreographers Imre and Marne van Opstal coproduced by Finland’s Tero Saarinen Company. The program also marks the return of company repertoire favourite Bedroom Folk, by Israel’s Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar.

That show is followed March 16 to 18 with HORIZON/S, boasting a new work by Vancouver-based dance artist Shay Kuebler in his first piece for the company. Czech choreographer Jiri Pokorny will also create a world premiere for the troupe. And WHICH/ONE, by Batsheva Dance Company alumna Adi Salant, will see a remount.

WAVE/S is the name of the season-closing program May 11 to 13, featuring a world premiere from Tel Aviv-based Roy Assaf in his debut with Ballet BC. Elsewhere, Sweden’s celebrated Johan Inger, who created Walking Mad, one of the best-loved pieces in the Ballet BC repertoire, returns to develop a large-scale ensemble piece in collaboration with Vancouver’s Arts Umbrella.

Just before the holidays, Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet is finally back to the West Coast with its opulent Nutcracker, December 9, 10, and 11 at the Queen E. stage.

Subscriptions are on sale now at balletbc.com. Single tickets will be available June 22.
