BALLET BC HAS announced an ambitious program with works by globally recognized choreographers for the second program of its 2021-22 season. Reveal + Tell takes place live at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre March 3 to 5.

Crystal Pite’s The Statement will have its Ballet BC debut. Originally created for Nederlands Dans Theater in 2016, the potent dance-theatre hybrid features four dancers who move to a recorded script by Canadian playwright Jonathon Young, one of Pite’s close collaborators. Having launched her esteemed career with Ballet BC, Pite has gone on to become one of the world’s most in-demand choreographers with her distinct, mesmerizing style.

German choreographer Marco Goecke will debut Woke Up Blind. Set to the soundtrack of two Jeff Buckley songs—“You and I” and “The Way Young Lovers Do”—the work engulfs dancers in a world of intense sound as they convey emotional extremes.

Ballet BC artistic director Medhi Walerski will premiere a new work, his first choreographic venture for the company since he took on the leadership role in 2020. Showcasing the entire ensemble, the piece is set to an original composition by Belgian composer Adrien Cronet and a piece by Franz Schubert, with lighting design by Pierre Pontvianne.

“With Reveal + Tell we add three new works to Ballet BC’s repertoire—what a privilege during a time when art is needed most,” Walerski said in a release. “Marco and Crystal are two of the world’s most inspiring choreographers. Their impactful creations surprise us and encourage us to reflect.”

Provincial COVID-19 health and safety protocols will in place. Tickets and more details are at balletbc.com
